The Taipei Health Bureau has announced the newest additions to its smoke-fee city program will be Dihua Street (迪化街) and the Chifeng Street (赤峰街) business district that runs along the red MRT line between Zhongshan and Shuanglian stations.
Beginning on August 1, anyone smoking in the proscribed areas will be issued a fine of between 2,000 and 10,000 NT.
As with other no-smoking areas, people who absolutely must fuel their habit will be able to use designated smoking enclosures.
The city temporarily prohibited smoking in the Dihua Street business district during the Chinese New Year.
It permanently designated the Ximending shopping area as smoke-free in May.
