Cabinet's 3 election official nominees rejected by Legislature

The government has failed to secure legislative confirmation of three nominees for the Central Election Commission.
The legislature rejected Cabinet nominees for a second time ... having done the same in the case of three previous nominees in March.
Former Cabinet advisor Shen Shu-fei (沈淑妃), lawyer Tsai Wei-che (蔡維哲), and Deputy Justice Minister Huang Mou-hsin (黃謀信) all fell short of the required 57 "yes" votes in a confirmation vote that took place yesterday afternoon.
The rejection of the three nominees won't prevent the CEC from operating. It currently has eight commissioners, and though it's mandated to have nine to 11, only a minimum of five members have to be present to reach a quorum.
In March, the opposition-dominated legislature voted to approve four commissioners that the KMT and TPP had put forward.
Cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) noted that the latest group of nominees had received good evaluations during their confirmation hearings ... and said the result may undermine public confidence in the legislature's confirmation process.
