The Coast Guard Administration has detained six crew members from a Chinese fishing vessel caught operating in restricted waters off an islet in the Penghu Islands.
The Coast Guard said the vessel was spotted operating 24 nautical miles west of Huayu -- the westernmost island of the Penghu archipelago yesterday evening.
The fishing boat ignored repeated siren warnings and tried to evade Taiwanese authorities.
The boat was soon intercepted and its cargo of 750 kilograms of fish was dumped into the sea.
The six men will be detained while an investigation proceeds.
The Coast Guard said this was the second time this year a Chinese fishing vessel has been intercepted while trespassing and fishing in Taiwanese waters.
