The Presidential Office is expressing gratitude to Group of Seven leaders, after their summit concluded with a joint statement opposing any forcible change to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
The G7 statement, issued at the conclusion of the summit in France, reaffirmed opposition to unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait, saying such issues should only be resolved peacefully through dialogue.
Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo said peace in the Taiwan Strait has widespread support in the international community and is in the core interest of the world.
She added that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its defense capabilities as a responsible regional partner.
