Posted on 2026-06-06 15:12:13
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an boasted of six enhancements to education policy at
this year's Taipei Education Expo.

Chiang said today that starting in the current academic year, elementary and
junior high schools will have free lunches.

Among the other changes: Maximum class sizes will be reduced to 25 in
elementary schools, 26 in junior high schools and 32 in senior high.

There will also be an incentive system for cross-school teacher exchanges and
a paid overseas research program for outstanding teachers.

Chiang said the city's education budget will exceed NT$83 billion.

The Taipei Education Bureau said the price tag for the free-lunch program
that will be made available for 186,000 students is 3.76 billion NT. Teachers
and other staff who supervise lunchtimes will be granted subsidies as part of
the program.
