President Lai Ching-te says Taiwan is the logical location for Asia's version of Nasdaq ... given its comprehensive AI ecosystem and status as a technology powerhouse.
Speaking in an interview broadcast by TTV and (台視) and Feifan TV (非凡電視), Lai said Taiwan hopes to become a global hub for technology investment and capital.
To achieve that, Taipei Times reports that Lai said Taiwan needs to adopt more flexible and innovation-friendly stock-listing rules.
He said his administration has already taken steps to make this so -- relaxing more than 52 rules and regulations over the past two years. This includes broadening investor eligibility for trading on the main board and allowing odd-lot trading, margin financing and day trading.
Lai said that Taiwan has better potential to earn the title of 'Asia's Nasdaq' than South Korea, Japan, Singapore, China or Hong Kong, as it possesses the world's most complete AI supply chain.
