Taiwan to block entry of DRC, Uganda nationals over Ebola concerns

Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control will bar entry to most citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda for 90 days starting on Tuesday ... to prevent the spread of Ebola.
Citizens of the two countries won't be permitted to enter Taiwan, even with valid visas. Meanwhile issuance of visas will be suspended for Ugandans and Congolese.
Exceptions will apply to four groups: students admitted to degree programs, diplomatic or official visitors, spouses or children of Taiwanese citizens ... and those with emergencies or humanitarian needs.
This marked Taiwan's first entry restriction on foreigners since March 2020, at the start of the COVID pandemic.
As of Wednesday, the DRC reported 906 suspected Ebola cases, including 223 suspected deaths, with 125 cases and 17 fatalities officially confirmed.
Uganda has confirmed seven cases and one death, according to World Health Organization.
The CDC cited similar measures adopted by the US and Canada in issuing its own entry ban.
