Li Chen-hsiu kicked out of TPP, removed from Legislature

The Taiwan People's Party has expelled a lawmaker over repeated disciplinary violations — a move that will also cost her her seat in the Legislature.
The TPP voted Monday to remove Li Chen-hsiu, the first China-born naturalized Taiwanese national to become a democratically elected lawmaker in Taiwan.
The party's Central Review Committee found she had made statements and taken actions that harmed the party's reputation and damaged party unity.
Li only entered the Legislature in February under the TPP's two-year term rotation rule for at-large legislators.
Her short tenure was dominated by a dispute over whether she had completed the legally required process to renounce her Chinese nationality — a standoff that led government officials to refuse to take her questions in the Legislature.
Li will be replaced by National Cheng Kung University law professor Hsu Chung-hsin.
