2026 Han Kuang drills test key U.S. military rehearsals: Source

Taiwan's largest annual military exercises are reportedly incorporating
U.S.-style rehearsal methods for the first time.

The 42nd Han Kuang exercises began Saturday with tabletop war games running
through April 24.

According to the Central News Agency, an unnamed senior defense official says
this year's drills are testing troops in four U.S. military rehearsal methods
designed to improve coordination and battlefield decision-making.

The official also said this year marks the first time Taiwan's military
intelligence units have been included in the tabletop war games — a move
analysts say reflects U.S. practices and will improve battlefield awareness.

The live-fire stage of the exercises, typically held in summer, has not yet
been scheduled.

Defense Minister Wellington Koo has said it is expected to last 10 days and
nine nights.
