The Taiwan Space Agency says the first satellite of the Formosat-8 constellation project has successfully lifted off from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
SpaceX's Transporter-15 rocket carried the satellite to space early this morning. It's the first of eight satellites in the Formosat- 8 constellation, which is expected to capture ground details at a resolution of 1 meter as part of efforts to counter the natural disasters and security risks Taiwan faces
That resolution sharpens to 0.7 meters after processing.
The launch had been postponed five times due to conflicts in launch schedules, a government shutdown in the United States and the need for more preparatory work to be done before liftoff.
