The Legislative Yuan has passed a number of amendments to laws with the aim of increasing oversight over solar farms, the Taipei Times reports.
This comes after work on a controversial solar farm in Kaohsiung was halted and the developer fined due to numerous concerns about its environmental impact.
Among the amendments is one to the Environmental Impact Assessment Act that requires all proposed solar panel projects of 40 megawatts or covering 40 hectares or more to undergo environmental impact assessments.
Environmental groups are calling for the legislation to be delayed, according to Taipei Times reporting. They say the criteria need further discussion and current changes could stifle green energy development without appreciably improving outcomes.
