The DPP says it has taken note of the Chinese Communist Party's continuing revisionist history regarding Taiwan, and the Communist interpretation isn't fooling the "international democratic community".
In a Facebook post, the DPP noted that besides being Taiwan Retrocession Day, Oct. 25 also marked the date of passage of Resolution 2758 in the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The resolution, in 1971, led to the ouster of then president Chiang Kai-shek's government from the UN so that representatives of the People's Republic of China could represent China.
The DPP notes that the CCP in recent decades has characterized the resolution as meaning that the UN recognizes China's right to represent Taiwan. In fact, Taiwan wasn't even mentioned in the resolution.
The DPP says China's distortion of Resolution 2758's significance needs to be continuously rebuffed. It added that the European Parliament as well as several other parliaments have passed resolutions to confirm Taiwan's interpretation and its right to participate in international organizations.
