Work & Class Suspensions Announced for Nov. 12 Due to Tropical Storm

Several local governments have announced work and class suspensions for tomorrow, November 12th, as a result of Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which continues to approach Taiwan.
Kaohsiung, Tainan, Taichung, Chiayi County, Miaoli County, and Penghu County will all suspend work and classes all day Wednesday, citing strong winds and heavy rain.
Meanwhile, work and classes will be on as normal for Taipei City, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, as conditions there do not meet the suspension threshold.
Authorities are urging residents across the island to stay alert for sudden weather changes.

Forecasters say the storm has been weakening ... and is expected to make landfall in Kaohsiung or Pingtung Wednesday evening ... making history as the second storm ever on record to make landfall in Taiwan in the month of November.
It's then expected to sweep across the island, exiting near Taitung early Thursday morning, likely weakening into a tropical depression as it goes.
As of 8:30 PM, the storm was located about 270 kilometers west-southwest of Taiwan's southernmost tip, Eluanbi, and is drifting north-northeast at around 8 to 23 kilometers per hour.
It's packing maximum sustained winds of around 90 kilometers per hour near its centre with gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

At Taoyuan International Airport, airport officials say all 714 flights scheduled for tomorrow are expected to operate as planned ... and that flood preventive measures are in place.
However, all domestic flights ... as well as some international flights at other airports scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled ... as a result of the storm.
That includes UNI Air, Mandarin Airlines ... China Airlines, EVA Airways, as well as Tigerair Taiwan and Cathay Pacific, which all announced the cancellation or rescheduling of flights, mostly departing or landing in Kaohsiung.
Meanwhile, The Kinmen County Port Affairs Office said that ferry services between Kinmen and the neighboring Chinese coastal cities of Xiamen and Quanzhou will be suspended in both directions throughout Wednesday,

The CWA has issued heavy rain and strong wind warnings for many cities and counties.
Notably, a super torrential rain is in effect for Yilan County in the east, where the accumulated rainfall in Nan-ao Township topped 750 millimeters over the past 24 hours.
There's also red torrential rain alert for other parts of Yilan, as well as Hualien and Taitung counties.
Strong wind alerts remain in place for the coastal areas on Taiwan's west side and outlying Penghu and Matsu.
