Former envoy urges review of U.S. support for Taiwan
Posted on 2026-11-05 18:08:13
Taiwan's former representative to Washington is urging an urgent reassessment
of congressional support following the U.S. midterm elections.

Stanley Kao says retirements and election defeats will remove members of
congressional groups that support Taiwan.

He says Taiwan's offices in the United States must prepare for the turnover
and review their relationships with lawmakers.

Speaking at a Taipei forum, Kao says Taiwan has invested heavily in building
those ties.

Trade expert Roy Lee says the election results are unlikely to fundamentally
change Washington's push to bring manufacturing back to America.

He expects greater use of investment incentives, while predicting continued
bipartisan pressure on China over advanced technology.

Lee also says closer Taiwan-U.S. economic ties are likely to continue despite
potentially longer legislative reviews.
