Eight Taiwan High Speed Rail employees have resigned after being found to have falsified nighttime track inspection records in Yunlin County over a five-year period.
Company President Chen Hui-yu (陳惠裕) told lawmakers today that the case was uncovered in August after investigators found discrepancies between vehicle GPS data and inspection records.
Chen says the employees failed to carry out required checks, while supervisors were also negligent in overseeing the inspections.
The company says it has reviewed records across its entire network and found similar irregularities only in Yunlin.
It is continuing its investigation and says supervisors involved will also face disciplinary action.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications says it will ask the Railway Bureau to strengthen its oversight of the high-speed rail operator.
