A Chinese national who sought asylum in Taiwan after arriving at Taoyuan International Airport has been deported to Thailand.
The National Immigration Agency says Cheng Wanjun (程萬軍) was sent back early today after authorities determined he was not eligible to seek asylum because he lacked valid entry documents and had not provided concrete evidence to support his claims.
Cheng identified himself as a former host at China Central Television and said he had been jailed for criticizing China's leadership before going into exile.
He also claimed the U-N refugee agency in Thailand had classified his case as high risk and could not guarantee his safety.
The N-I-A says Cheng was provided with food and a place to rest while his case was reviewed.
However, he sustained injuries while resisting attempts to board the flight back to Thailand.
