Agriculture ministry expects enough pig feed through year-end
Posted on 2026-11-04 14:05:13
The Ministry of Agriculture says Taiwan should have enough pig feed through
the end of the year, despite a shutdown at a major soybean oil producer.

The plant remains closed after tests found excessive levels of a
cancer-causing chemical in its oil.

The shutdown has cut supplies of soybean cooking oil and soybean meal, a key
ingredient in pig and chicken feed.

Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih (陳駿季) says the ministry has asked other
producers to increase output.

It's also adjusting feed formulas to use less soybean meal and helping
companies import enough to cover any shortfall.

Separately, the ministry is helping pig farmers switch to other types of feed
ahead of a nationwide ban on feeding pigs food waste.

The ban takes effect January first.
