Drivers 75 and older who cause crashes face new training rule
Posted on 2026-11-04 14:05:13
Starting in late December, drivers aged 75 and older who cause a crash by
breaking traffic rules will have to pay for training before they can renew
their licenses.

The Ministry of Transportation says those drivers must complete hands-on
training at a driving school.

The requirement follows a change in May that lowered the age for routine
license renewal from 75 to 70.

Drivers who turn 70 can renew through age 75 after passing a medical exam and
taking a free safety course.

From age 75, licenses are renewed every three years.

The changes are part of a broader overhaul that also adds questions on
spotting hazards to the written driving tests.
