The Ministry of Labor is proposing a new set to policies aimed at reversing the island's declining birth rate.
The plan includes increasing the maternity leave policy to 12 weeks and increasing paid pregnancy check-up leave to 10 days.
The government currently offers eight weeks of maternity leave and seven days of paid pregnancy check-up leave.
Labor Minister Hung Sun-han says his office is currently working to have the policies take effect by early next year.
The statements come after President Lai Ching-te announced his national family support strategy in May.
Along with extending maternity leave paid pregnancy check-up leave, that strategy also proposed extending marriage leave to 14 days and spousal leave to accompany wives to prenatal exams to 14 days.
