Cheng arrived at Taoyuan International Airport on Monday on a flight from Thailand.
He claims to have hosted legal affairs programs Chinese state television and says he was detained in 2019 in Beijing and sentenced to six years in prison on charges of illegal business operations.
Cheng social media posts say he moved to Thailand following his release, but was concerned Thai authorities could send him back to China.
