Flu activity declines in Taiwan, may rise again before Lunar New Year

The Centers for Disease Control says flu activity has been declining, but could pick up again ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays in February.
According to the C-D-C, a total of 95,916 people sought medical treatment for flu-like illnesses from October 25 through 31 and that was decline of 7.3 percent from the previous week.
The C-D-C says flu activity last week fell below the threshold for an epidemic and if it remains below that level for a second consecutive week, Taiwan will have exited the epidemic phase.
However, health officials say based on past trends, flu activity could begin rising again around the Lunar New Year holidays.
The CDC recorded 151 new severe flu cases and 46 flu-related deaths last week, most involving people who had not been vaccinated.
The publicly funded flu and COVID-19 vaccination programs have now been expanded to all adults aged between 50 and 64.
The C-D-C is urging seniors, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses and healthy adults aged 50 and older, to get vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 as soon as possible to reduce the risk of severe illness and complications.
