In news from and about Taiwan this morning,
The Financial Supervisory Commission says Bank SinoPac is still investigating the cause of 427 unauthorized transactions totaling more than 40-million N-T and affecting 419 customers.
According to the F-S-C's Banking Bureau, it was notified by the SinoPac shortly before noon that customers had reported unauthorized transfers from their accounts despite not having logged into the bank's new mobile banking app.
An initial review by the bank found that all the transfers had been sent to a single account at another bank.
Each transaction involved about 100,000 N-T.
The F-S-C says the receiving account has been temporarily frozen.
The commission also says Bank SinoPac proactively notified affected customers and was is its own funds to reimburse them.
The bank has also taken its new mobile banking app offline and is directing customers to use the older version of the app or ATMs for transactions.
