SinoPac still probing unauthorized transfer of NT$40 million: FSC
Posted on 2026-11-03 20:06:13
Bank SinoPac is investigating a software glitch that led to 427 unauthorized transfers totaling more than 40-million NT and affecting 419 customers.
The Financial Supervisory Commission says the transactions were sent to a single account at another bank, with each transfer involving around 100-thousand NT. The receiving account has been temporarily frozen.
Bank SinoPac says the problem was caused by a software glitch in its new mobile banking system and that all affected customers have been reimbursed, including transaction fees.
The bank has taken the new app offline and is directing customers to use its older version or ATMs while it investigates.
The FSC has ordered the bank to submit an initial report by the end of Tuesday and a detailed account by November 12th.
It will decide whether to impose penalties after reviewing the findings.
