The Malaysian representative in Taiwan is warning the country's students here to be vigilant of rising scam cases involving Malaysians.
According to the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Center, the number of Malaysians in detention in Taiwan has now increased to more than 800 from 33 in 2023, with more than 600 allegedly playing the role as money mules.
Representative Huang Yi-rui (黃奕瑞) also said that Malaysian parents should educate their children who are either in Taiwan or planning to study there about the risks of becoming involved in criminal activities.
Meanwhile Malaysian police have recently busted an online scam operation based in Kuala Lumpur and arrested 18 Taiwanese nationals, including 17 men and one woman.
Police said those suspects impersonated Hong Kong police officers and targeted Hong Kong people.
