Venezuela's once-exiled opposition leader calls for elections in 2027

Maria Corina Machado, the once-exiled leader of Venezuela's opposition, has called for elections to be held next year.
Machado, last year's Nobel Peace Prize winner, said that Venezuela's move towards democracy was "irreversible".
Delcy Rodriguez, the country's interim president, also said that elections would be held but did not set a timeline.
Rodriguez said that her government should oversee a "transition of this magnitude", but Machado called this idea non-sensical.
Machado announced earlier this week that she had returned to Venezuela after 10 months in exile.
During those ten months, the US apprehended Venezuela's then-president, Nicolas Maduro, and brought him to the United States, installing his deputy, Rodriguez, as interim president.
