MoEnv Approves Exploration for CCS

The Ministry of Environment has approved Taiwan's first geological
exploration plan for carbon capture and storage in Yunlin County.

Formosa Petrochemical will evaluate underground storage reservoirs and clay
caps across land and sea zones in the county through 2031.

The ministry emphasized that the exploration permit forbids carbon injection
testing and grants no exclusive rights for future storage operations.

And Formosa Petrochemical must complete a comprehensive Environmental Impact
Assessment before applying for final storage authorization.

Ministry officials say the decision marks the next phase in Taiwan's carbon
capture strategy, as part of efforts to support net-zero goals.
