Champi Farm Losses Top 446 Million N.T.
Posted on 2026-10-29 15:01:14
Typhoon Champi has caused more than 446-million N.T. in agricultural damage
across Taiwan.
The Ministry of Agriculture's estimate covers agricultural products and
privately owned facilities as of yesterday afternoon.
Strong winds and flooding damaged crops, fishing equipment and livestock
buildings.
Premier Cho Jung-tai today called for stronger agricultural insurance
coverage and a review of disaster assistance.
Five weather-based insurance products have triggered estimated payouts
totaling 81-million N.T.
The government has also announced cash assistance and low-interest loans for
eligible farmers and fishing businesses.
Qualifying disaster loans will be interest-free through August 25 next year.
The ministry says insurance participation remains low for most crops, despite
much higher enrollment among rice farmers.
Cho also directed officials to maintain adequate food supplies and stable
prices.
