Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀) has pledged to review school safety procedures after a Taipei elementary teacher was charged with sexually abusing 38 boys.
Prosecutors allege the abuse began in 2010 and included producing sexual images of students.
They indicted the teacher yesterday and are seeking a 30-year prison sentence.
D-P-P lawmaker Kuo Yu-ching (郭昱晴) today questioned how the alleged abuse could have gone undetected by education authorities for 16 years.
Cheng promised to clarify the case by the end of today and discuss safety procedures with local governments.
Taipei's education department says the teacher has been dismissed and permanently barred from teaching.
It also says it imposed administrative fines totaling 13-million-500-thousand N.T.
The ministry has asked city officials to enter him into its database of teachers deemed unfit to teach.
