Alergia has approved a resolution to send troops to Niger.
That's the first time since 1973 that Alergian soldiers will be deployed abroad.
Officials say the troops are being sent to "protect Algeria's economic interests, particularly its oil facilites in Niger."
The move comes during ongoing instability in the Sahel region, where violent extremism and coups have affected not only Niger but also Mali and Burkina Faso.
Algeria has been working with Niger on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline which aims to transport natural gas to European markets.
The move emphasizes the thawing relations between Algeria and Niger.
