US Justice Dept. sends letters to California election officials

The US Justice Dept. has sent letters to officials across California ...
demanding that they help identify potential noncitizens on their voter rolls
and set aside their ballots.

The New York Times reports that the same letter was sent to every county in
the state .. and it included a threat that officials would "risk significant
federal scrutiny" if they didn't comply.

It's part of a series of Trump administration moves late in the midterm
election campaign aimed at stalling election processes or digging up evidence
of noncitizen voting.

The suit is scheduled to be heard by a judge next week, but the Justice
Department is urging an appeals court to make a decision in the case this
weekend.
