The US State Department says it will reduce staffing at four embassies in the Middle East after receiving intelligence that Iran has stepped up efforts to target American personnel in the region and elsewhere.
The reductions appear to be in the wake of a memo sent by the Director of National Intelligence to Secretary of State Marco Rubio that detailed the threat risk.
The staff reductions will be carried out at embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the UAE.
US officials have adamantly denied the drawdowns are tied to any potential new US or Israeli strikes on Iran.
