Search underway for missing visitor off Xiaoliuqiu

Rescuers are searching for a man who went missing while swimming off
Xiaoliuqiu near noon today.

Police say the visitor, surnamed Lin, may have been swept offshore by a rip
current at Meiren Beach.

Lin, who is from New Taipei, was visiting the island with a female friend.

He went into the water alone, and his friend called for help after seeing him
in trouble from the shore.

Police, firefighters and Coast Guard personnel responded, and a search of the
surrounding waters is continuing.

According to the latest report, rescuers have yet to find him.
