Taipower's Fuel Costs Could Rise by NT$160 Billion This Year

Taipower is warning that its accumulated losses could exceed 420-billion NT by the end of this year ... unless it receives additional government funding.
The state-run power company says the Middle East war has driven up energy costs, with its annual fuel bill projected to rise by more than 160-billion NT if gas prices remain unchanged.
Taipower lost over 20-billion NT in the first eight months of this year, while its accumulated losses stand at over 371-billion NT.
The Cabinet has proposed allocating an additional 71-billion NT to help cover the losses.
But Taipower says that would still leave a gap of more than 80-billion NT against the projected rise in fuel costs.
The company says it has absorbed higher energy costs to help keep electricity prices stable, while its debt has reached 1.85-trillion NT.
