Employers Required to Help Cover Transport Costs During Typhoon Days

The Ministry of Labor says employers who require staff to work during a typhoon day must help cover their transportation costs ... including taxi fares when necessary.
The reminder comes as Typhoon Champi approaches Taiwan, bringing the threat of strong winds and heavy rain.
The ministry says workers can stay home when their local government announces a work suspension ... and employers cannot treat their absence as unauthorized leave or force them to use personal leave.
If employees are required to work and their usual way of commuting isn't possible, employers should help arrange transportation and pay for necessary taxi rides.
The ministry is also urging employers to suspend dangerous outdoor work and take precautions at construction sites.
It warns that employers who fail to provide necessary safety measures could face fines if workers are injured.
