Premier urges evacuations before nightfall as Champi approaches
Posted on 2026-10-22 14:49:14
Premier Cho Jung-tai is urging local governments to complete precautionary
evacuations before nightfall as Typhoon Champi approaches.

The Central Emergency Operation Center has raised its activation to Level One
following this morning's sea and land warnings.

Cho says priority areas include communities at risk of landslides, isolation
or flooding near the Wanli River barrier lake.

He has directed officials to prepare supplies and shelter arrangements before
strong winds and heavy rain make evacuations more dangerous.

Authorities are also being asked to tighten coastal safety controls.

With a three-day holiday approaching, organizers of outdoor events, concerts
and campaign rallies are being urged to consider postponements or
cancellations.

Transport officials have been told to prepare alternative travel arrangements
and promptly announce disruptions.
