Some construction remains suspended as TSMC fab in Kaohsiung

Construction work at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's Fab 22 site in
Kaohsiung has been suspended after a workplace accident that left four
workers dead.

The accident occured on Tuesday.

The four workers reportedly fell from an unspecified height when a steel
structure collapsed during a hoisting and installation operation.

The Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau says a preliminary assessment shows
the accident could have been caused by old bolts that broke, but the exact
cause of the accident remains investigation.

TSMC said steel structure work at the Kaohsiung site and its new fab
construction sites across Taiwan had been voluntarily suspended.

The bureau says work can only resume after the contractor responsible submits
an improvement plan that passes review.
