Taichung mayor in Okinawa for deepening ties
Posted on 2026-10-21 19:06:13
Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen has officiated a mass wedding ceremony for 66
couples ... aboard a flight to Okinawa, Japan.

Lu accompanied the newlyweds on a special flight yesterday, as part of a
visit aimed at strengthening ties between Taichung and the Japanese
prefecture.

After arriving in Okinawa, Lu and her delegation met with senior vice
governor Mi-ya-gi Tsu-gu-yo-shi to discuss cooperation in tourism, smart
cities, sports and education.

Lu says frequent direct flights between Taichung and Okinawa, which take just
90 minutes, have helped bring the two places closer together.

She says the city chose Okinawa as the destination for what it calls Taiwan's
first-ever mass wedding ceremony held aboard an aircraft.
