Philippines Summons Chinese Ambassador Over Remarks
Posted on 2026-10-19 20:12:14
The Philippines has summoned China's ambassador to protest remarks it
considers a threat to use force.

Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro expressed the government's serious
concern and strong objection to the ambassador's comments on Thursday.

The dispute comes amid long-running tensions between the two countries over
competing claims in the South China Sea.

Some Philippine lawmakers have called for the ambassador to be formally
censured or expelled.

China has defended its ambassador, describing Manila's response as an
overreaction.
