Labor Groups Call for Higher Employer Pension Contributions

Around 2-thousand workers have protested outside the Presidential Office in Taipei ... demanding higher wages and better retirement benefits.
Labor groups are calling for employers' mandatory pension contributions to be raised from the current 6 percent to 15 percent.
They're also demanding a system that allows workers to share in company profits, along with stronger workplace protections.
The Ministry of Labor says it understands the demands, but raising pension contributions would require changes to Taiwan's labor pension system and further discussions with employers and workers.
The ministry is also urging companies to raise salaries for existing employees when the minimum wage goes up ... to help workers keep up with living costs.
