Scholars call for anti-AI election infiltration mechanism

Scholars are calling on the government to develop AI tools to detect and counter Chinese disinformation ahead of Taiwan's November 28th local elections.
Experts at a DPP forum today warned that China is increasingly using AI to spread misinformation and influence Taiwan's elections.
DPP Secretary-General Hsu Kuo-yung (徐國勇) accused Beijing of spreading messages that are partly true but largely false in an attempt to interfere in Taiwan's elections.
The scholars say China's short-term goal is to influence election results, while its longer-term aim is to deepen social divisions and undermine public trust in democracy.
They are urging the government to establish AI-based detection systems and strengthen media literacy education to help people identify and verify suspicious information.
