The Central Election Commission says 10 candidates running for city and
county council seats in Taiwan's upcoming local elections have been ruled
ineligible.

The CEC said five were running for special municipality council seats and
five for county or city council seats.

The disqualification criteria included not living in Taiwan for long enough
since giving up Chinese household registration. For example, You Zhi-bin
(游智彬), who was running for a Taipei City Council seat, submitted proof of
relinquishing his Fujian "hukou" last April ... while the rules says he can't
run until notice has been served for 10 years.

Four other disqualified city council candidates were ruled ineligible because
of criminal convictions, or sentences that hadn't been fully served.

Taiwan's 2026 local elections are slated for Nov. 28.

Voters will cast ballots in Taiwan's 22 cities and counties for candidates
vying for nine different local government posts, including city mayors and
county magistrates ... as well as city and county councilors.
