Pegatron Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) is opposing a proposal to relocate Taipei's Songshan Airport ...
... saying a major capital city needs a convenient airport close to its downtown area.
Tung points to Tokyo and Seoul, where airports near the city centers have continued to expand to meet growing transportation needs.
He also warns that replacing Songshan Airport with more buildings could make Taipei even more crowded.
Instead, Tung suggests developing an artificial intelligence industrial park in Danhai New Town ... connecting it with Guandu (關渡) and the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park.
He says the area could benefit from improved transportation links and convenient power supplies if the Second Nuclear Power Plant is restarted.
Tung believes the plan would provide a better setting for AI industry development while preserving Songshan Airport's transportation role.
*Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has proposed moving the airport to make room for an AI park, housing and green space.
