Premier Cho Jung-tai says Taiwan is closely monitoring reported pneumonic plague concerns in Russia and neighboring regions.
Health Minister Shih Chung-liang 石崇良 confirmed that Taiwan contacted the World Health Organization, adding that no plague pathogens have been verified in Russian laboratory tests to date.
Health officials warned that pneumonic plague spreads through airborne droplets and carries a mortality rate of up to 60 percent.
In response to regional outbreak rumors, the premier ordered comprehensive health screening across Mini Three Links travel routes with mainland China.
And the Mainland Affairs Council confirmed it is coordinating with health agencies to update Taiwanese business owners and travelers across the region.
