Car ploughs into rugby fans in Newcastle, Australia, injuring 10
Posted on 2026-10-03 16:07:13
Australian officials say a car drove into a large crowd standing on a road to
cheer on the Newcastle Knights rugby team, injuring 10 people.

Two of the injured -- a 5-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man -- were in
critical condition.

The other eight were in stable condition at a hospital.

Police said they arrested the 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle and were
investigating what happened.

They said the crash wasn't believed to be related to terrorism.

Fans had been waiting for the team bus ahead of a rugby league finals match
between the Sydney Roosters and the Knights scheduled for tomorrow.
