The KMT is renewing calls to double the government's planned universal cash payment next year from 10,000 to 20,000 N.T.
KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi says stronger tax revenue and economic growth mean the government can afford the higher payment.
Premier Cho Jung-tai disagrees.
Cho told lawmakers today that revenue generated by Taiwan's AI-driven growth is already being used for social welfare, industrial development and disaster prevention.
He says raising the payment to 20,000 N.T. would require additional borrowing.
The government has budgeted about 235.7 billion N.T. for a 10,000 N.T. payment next year, while maintaining that the plan will not require new borrowing.
