A probiotic seller has been fined more than four million NT this year for making false claims about its product.
The Food and Drug Administration says advertisements for the Huo Hua Sheng (活化勝) probiotic claimed it could "reverse kidney disease" and exaggerated its health benefits.
The company has now been fined a total of 8.9 million NT since 2024 for repeated violations.
The product's endorser, nephrologist Chiang Shou-shan (江守山), has also been referred for disciplinary action.
The latest violations involved advertisements repeatedly aired on television and other media.
The F-D-A says food products are not medicines and cannot claim to treat or cure diseases.
It warned that such claims could cause people to delay seeking proper medical treatment.
