Young people in Taiwan face growing appearance anxiety

New data shows that more than around one in three young people in Taiwan experience anxiety about their appearance ... with some using face masks to hide how they look.
The survey by the Child Welfare League Foundation questioned more than 10-thousand junior and senior high school students across Taiwan.
It found that nearly half of female students reported appearance anxiety ... compared with about 20 percent of male students.
Nearly a quarter of students also said they wear face masks for more than half the day ... to conceal their appearance or emotions rather than for health reasons.
The foundation says parents and teachers should avoid criticizing young people's appearance, weight or clothing ...
... and instead help them build confidence based on their personal qualities.
