Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan An faces mounting controversy over the city's free school lunch program...
as students at another school are suspected to have contracted food poisoning.
DPP City Councilor Hong Jian Yi yesterday revealed that parents had contacted his office, reporting 10 cases of suspected food poisoning that took place last week.
He said that parents reported that the children had eaten squid in the school's free lunch and threw up afterwards.
The city's Education Bureau says, the incident took place at Songshan's Minzu Elementary School, adding that the school instituted changes the day after the food poisoning took palce.
Mayor Chiang says today that doctors' initial assessment suggests that the students are suffering from gastroenteritis, possibly brought on by norovirus.
He added that the school had put into place cleaning and disinfection measures after the case came to light.
The Minzu Elementary case comes just days after 3 students at Jinhua Middle School are suspected to have gotten food poisoning last week.
