KMT claims CY nominees too political

The Presidential Office and the opposition KMT are at odds over the rejection
of all 27 of President Lai Ching-te's nominees to the Control Yuan.

The Presidential Office says it respects the legislature's decision ... but
expressed regret that investigations involving social justice and people's
rights will be brought to a standstill ...

... and that the Control Yuan and National Human Rights Commission will
remain unable to operate normally.

However, KMT caucus secretary-general Hsu Yu-chen (許宇甄) says that lawmakers
are not required to approve every candidate put forward by the president.

She says lawmakers have a constitutional responsibility to scrutinize
candidates ... including whether they can carry out their duties
independently and above party politics.

The KMT says the vote reflects broader concerns over the way the Control Yuan
has been functioning.
