Six five-star hotels fined for food safety violations: TFDA

The Food and Drug Administration has fined six five-star hotels a total of
466-thousand NT for food safety and hygiene violations.

The fines followed inspections of restaurants at 48 international tourist and
five-star hotels across Taiwan.

The violations included storing expired food, incorrect food labeling and
failing to employ qualified food safety professionals.

The Evergreen Plaza Hotel in Tainan received the largest fine of 220-thousand
NT after inspectors found five violations.

Other hotels were fined for storing expired food, for failing to employ
qualified professionals, and for failing to ensure that staff completed
certified food safety training.

The F-D-A says hotels must meet food safety and hygiene standards, including
requirements for staff training and food handling.
